College Dorm Checklist
Here is your handy dandy College Dorm Checklist…
Congratulations on your acceptance to College!
This is is a big step in your life.
The key is to only bring what you actually need. Your space is limited so it is important to plan ahead. Here are some ideas to get you started.

Clothing
- Jeans/Pants/Shorts
- T-shirts, Shirts, Long Sleeve T’s
- Sweatshirts/Sweatpants
- Jammie’s or something to wear at night, Robe
- Active wear, shorts, tanks, etc
- Socks and Underwear- the more you have the less laundry you will have to do.
- Belts
- Shoes- sneakers, shoes, flip flops, boots (think comfy)
- Rain Gear and Snow Gear – you will be walking in this weather.
- Hat, Gloves
- Watch
- Purses, small carry all bag or tote
- One dressy outfit
Laundry
- Laundry Detergent
- Fabric Softener
- Bleach (use colorsafe)
- Hamper or Laundry Bag (to put your dirty stuff in)
- Sharpie (to mark your clothes)
- Stain remover
Toiletries
- Toothbrush, Toothpaste, Floss, Mouthwash
- Bathroom Caddy (No you can’t keep your shampoo in the bathroom)
- Towels, Washcloths, Hand Towels (3 of each and 7 washcloths)
- Shower Flip Flops (Trust me you do not want to shower barefoot, yuck!)
- Razors, Shaving Cream
- Shampoo, Conditioner, body wash
- Soap
- Gel, Mouse, Hairspray
- Hairdryer, brush, comb, flat iron,
- tweezer, nail clippers
- First Aid kit (band aids etc.)
- Aspirin, Vitamins, Cough drops, Over the counter remedies
- Lotions, Moisturizers
- Tampons, Pads (for the girls, of course)
- Makeup (for the girls, but if you guys want to bring some proceed at your own risk)
- Contact Lenses, Solution (anything you need, don’t forget extra pairs)
- Deodorant, Perfume, Cologne, After shave
- Chap Stick, Q-tips,
Dorm Electronics
- Laptop
- Mp3 Player or ipod
- Ethernet Cord
- Surge Protected Power Strip (if you want to get fancy, get a battery backup)
- Lock for your Laptop (thing can grow legs and disappear, so be prepared)
- Carrying Case for your laptop
- Alarm Clock (get one which has speakers so it can double as a clock and a stereo)
- Speakers for you computer (not necessary but is great for listening to some tunes)
- USB Drive (thumb drive) Get a large capacity and protect it with your life)
- Extension Cords (power strips are best)
- Desk Lamp
- Phone for using a Land line (check to see if dorms are wired with phone)
- Fan or Heater
- Chargers for all your devices (Check out a recharging Station for multiple devices)
- Batteries (All sizes, check your gadgets to determine your needs)
Bedding
- Sheets (Twin extra long) Make sure you have two sets and yes, you will have to wash these once in a while.
- Pillows – 2 pillows, a body pillow is also nice to make things more comfy
- Comforter- A comforter, Quilt and an extra blanket
- Mattress Cover To help soften the Dorm Mattress
- Mattress Pad- Those Dorm bed are nothing like your bed at home.
- Risers- To lift your bed up higher so you can store more things underneath
Dorm Room Supplies and Decor
- Posters and Pictures
- Curtains
- Under bed Storage Container or Organizers
- Hangers and Closet Organizers
- Plastic Bins
- Any type of organizer to make your life easier
- Night Light
- Rug
- Waste Basket
- Computer Chair
- Flashlight
- Dry Erase Board
- Bulletin Board
- Cordless Quick Vac or Broom
- Calendar
- Futon, Bean Bag Chairs, Floor Pillows
- Kitchen Items- Travel Mugs, Water Bottle, Bowl, utensils, etc
- Cleaning Supplies – you gotta clean once in a while (Windex, All purpose cleaner and Paper Towels)

- Microwave
- TV
- Mini Fridge
- Video Game Systems
- DVD Player
- Coffee Maker (only if you are a big coffee drinker, this will save you so much money!)
You should check with your roommate to avoid doubling up on items.
